It was titled "Battle of the Planet" and Joe Calzaghe's fight with Bernard Hopkins lived up to it's billing.
After enduring an early knockdown, "The Pride of Wales" battled his way to a spirited split decision over Light Heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins to claim the Ring Magazine title .
The pace was frantic at times, methodical in others. But the three judges scorecards were as sporadic as the action as the scores were 114-113 for Hopkins with the other two judges giving the fight to Joe Calzaghe with scores of 115-112 and 116-111.
