Seattle’s Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP/SFM) announced the opening of the second original installment of the exhibition dedicated to the legendary Jimi Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix: An Evolution of Sound, set to open April 26, 2008, focuses on how Hendrix affected popular music across the world using his unique guitar sound and his influence on culture, nearly 40 years after his death.

“This new exhibition will illustrate Hendrix’s musical evolution in five stages, from his early days in Seattle, to his time as a journeyman musician touring the southern “chitlin’ circuit” and in New York City, to his explosion on the popular music scene in London and beyond,” said Jacob McMurray, senior curator at EMP|SFM. “The exhibition will weave together the various musical styles and cultures that Hendrix soaked up throughout his all-too-short journey.”

The first installment, Message To Love: Remembering and Reclaiming Jimi Hendrix, January 26, 2008 – April 6,2008, featured iconic artifacts like his Gibson Les Paul guitar, played by Hendrix in 1963, and a Woodstock Fender Stratocaster. The gallery walls were transformed into a slate for visitors to write comments and reflections on, which the EMP/SFM will later use to help shape future exhibitions about Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix: An Evolution of Sound will not only explore the artist’s life and career, but also give visitors the unique opportunity to view rare footage and films at The Play On Theater.
