Jay-Z continues his history making trends as he co-headlines the first ever Pemberton Festival in British Columbia this July.

Accompanying the Brooklyn icon will be Rock acts including Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Interpol and various others.

While the event is heavily considered a Rock festival, similar to last week’s South-by-South-West, the addition of Jay-Z will be an attempt to appeal to larger audiences. This action reflects a similar trend set by the annual Glastonbury Festival in the UK last February when Jay-Z was headlined.

With mixed reactions on the part of the fans of the event, head organizer Michael Eavis justified the decision due to a lack in ticket sales and loss of effective rock headliners. “There’s not as many as last year because we haven’t got the super, big, big, big sort of headlining act anymore. We’ve gone for something middle range although Jay-Z is huge in America,Eavis told the BBC.

Located two hours away from Vancouver, the Pemberton Festival will be surrounded by a festival village, camping facilities, a RV Park, and shuttle service. Tickets go on sale through PembertonFestival.com as early as Friday, March 28th.

The event is currently set for July 25th-27th.
