The Queen of Reggae and widow of legendary Reggae musician Bob Marley, is sitting in the executive producer’s seat for the premiere biopic portraying the reggae icon.

Rita Marley, mother, wife and heir to the Marley legacy, received inspiration to create this film from her 2004 autobiography book entitled “No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley”.

“Every inch of me is in there,” she says, “and I don’t want a fairy tale or Cinderella story.”

Of Bob’s 13 children, three were with his wife Rita. Two of his children were adopted from Rita‘s previous relationships, and the remaining eight were with separate women.

Rita hopes that eight time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill, mother to five of her grandchildren with Marley’s fourth son, Rohan, will play her role as Bob‘s wife.

“Lauryn would be ideal [to play me]” said Marley. “She sees my life as her life.”

Although there has been no word as to which two actors will play the role of the reggae legend in the portrayal of his adolescent and adult life, it seems as though she hopes to keep it in the family, adding that her grandson Stefan is “the spitting image” of his father and would be perfect for the role.

Production and distribution giant, The Weinstein Company, is teaming up with producer Rudy Langlais, (Sugar Hill, The Hurricane) to begin filming early next year, with a hopeful release date in the latter part of 2009.

The film, in which Langlais calls an “epic romance,” will explore the victories, as well as the trials of the Marleys‘ life, including Bob‘s untimely defeat on May 11, 1981 to the spread of melanoma to his lungs and brain.
