Common, KRS-One and Q-Tip are set to continue Hip Hop’s long running relationship with alcohol companies for the Smirnoff Signature Mix Series.
The three wordsmiths will join forces with critically acclaimed producers Just Blaze, Cool and Dre, and DJ Premier. Common’s "The Light", A Tribe Called Quest’s "Midnight" and Boogie Down Productions’ "Criminal Minded" will be given fresh soundtracks as part of the project.
The artist/producer pairings coincide with new Smirnoff mixed drinks, The Southside, The Blueberry Abstract and The Cypha.
KRS -- who reworked "Criminal Minded" with DJ Premier [click to listen] -- spoke on the collaboration.
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to revisit one of my signature songs and give it a breath of fresh air," said KRS-One. "I'm grateful to Smirnoff for providing the opportunity to work with such great talent on such a ground-breaking idea and recreate hip-hop songs."
The tracks will also have accompanying video footage.
