With the positive results that their
groupmates have found by working on full-length projects with outside
collaborators, it seems like Young RJ and Rapper Big
Pooh are making a wise decision by joining forces for an entire
album.
A press release circulating online says that the Detroit producer and North Carolina emcee—who have found previous success through their respective groups, BR Gunna and Little Brother—connected through Scrap Dirty, who is RJ’s manager and a Violator DJ.
While Pooh earned critical praise with his solo debut Sleepers in 2005, RJ has yet to release an entire project that he’s produced. He has, however, landed beats on albums from the likes of Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Phat Kat and Kurupt. A snippet of “Money,” the first single from the as-of-yet untitled album, is making its way through internet message boards as well. The track features Frank, from Detroit emcee duo Frank-N-Dank.
As stated earlier, the two’s groupmates have found success in their collaborative LPs as well. Black Milk, Young RJ’s production partner in BR Gunna, has reteamed with the group’s third member Fat Ray for the upcoming album The Set Up, and collaborated with California rapper Bishop Lamont for last year’s Caltroit LP. Phonte, the other half of Little Brother, is working on his second album with producer Nicolay as the group Foreign Exchange.
