Famed Jazz label Blue Note Records has long respected its influence among Hip Hop. The label has officiallu released mixtapes from Pete Rock, Lord Finesse and Biz Markie throughout the late ’90s, while more recently endorsing remixes from talents such as Madlib and J Dilla.

In this rich tradition, February 2 will see Blue Note release Droppin’ Science, a collection of the label’s tracks that have been sampled within Hip Hop. Catalogue highlights include David Axelrod and David McCullum‘s “The Edge,” (used most notably in Dr. Dre‘s “The Next Episode”) Ronnie Foster‘s “Mystic Brew” (A Tribe Called Quest‘s “Electric Relaxation”) and Joe Williams‘ “Get Out of My Life Woman” (Kool G Rap & DJ Polo‘s “Ill Street Blues”).

The 10-track release has three additional bonus cuts, available in the LP and digital formats. The project was coordinated and assembled by Blue Note VP of A&R Eli Wolf. Wolf admits that the project’s name in of itself was inspired by a 1988 acclaimed song by Marley Marl.
