January may be a notoriously slow month for the music industry, but thanks to the race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination; two Hip Hop artists have found themselves on opposite sides of the political fence. Chicago natives Rhymefest and Lupe Fiasco have taken to the blogosphere, to hash out their differences of opinions regarding who they think should be the next leader of the free world.
On Jan. 5, Rhymefest wrote a blog on his MySpace profile [click HERE for the link] entitled Don’t Let Arrogance Fuel Your Ignorance (Support Barack). Rhymefest took Lupe Fiasco to task for being misinformed on Obama’s position regarding a potential war with Iran. In an interview with SOHH, posted on Jan. 3, [click HERE for the link] Lupe was quoted as saying, “Obama doesn’t really impress me that much. It’s not a shot at him but some of his agendas, the bombing of Iran and all that stuff…”Rhymefest went on to call Lupe Fiasco’s comments “fucking erroneous and outrageous” and cited an Obama quote that emphasized dialogue and behavioral changes over nuclear warfare.
Both artists then continued the debate on okayplayer in a forum, entitled And furthermore nigga!!!!… [click HERE for a link to the original thread]. After both artists explained their respective positions they essentially agreed to disagree, while Lupe did offer to check the validity of his quote and his source regarding Barack Obama bombing Iran.

Both Lupe and Rhymefest have since updated their blogs to reflect the highlights of the cyber debate. For those keeping score, Lupe says that his knowledge of the political process is what causes him to disagree with it, while Rhymefest cites being raised in an impoverished, single-parent household as a primary reason why Obama’s message of hope appeals to him. For the record, Reuters reports that when polls close at 8:00 p.m. today (Jan. 8), Barack Obama is expected to maintain his lead over Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire Primary. This news comes on the heels of Obama’s victory in the Iowa caucuses. On Feb. 5, which is often referred to as “Super Tuesday,” 22 states will hold nominating contests to determine which candidate will hold their party’s nomination in November.
