Kanye West & Evil Knievel End
Dispute
The legal dispute between Kanye West and legendary stuntman Evel Knievel has been settled.
Knievel took issue with Kanye’s video for "Touch The Sky". In the video, ‘Ye assumes the persona of "Evil Kanyevil" and dons a costume similar to the one Knievel wore in his day. Outraged by the video—which he viewed as vulgar and a threat to his reputation—Knievel filed suit last year against West, his record label, Roc-A-Fella Records and media giant AOL.
West’s attorneys argued that the portrayal was satire and thus, covered by the First Amendment.
What threatened to be a lengthy court battle was settled amicably when the men agreed to mediation over trial.
"We settled the lawsuit amicably," Knievel said of the agreement. "I was very satisfied and so was he."
Knievel also retracted some comments previously made about West after their recent in person meeting. In the early phases of the disagreement over the video, Knievel stated that West was promoting his “filth to the world” by using the stunt man’s image.
A meeting with the rapper showed Knievel that West was far from a social deviant.
"I thought he was a wonderful guy and quite a gentleman," Knievel said.
West has been in the news a lot lately with the sudden passing of his mother, Dr. Donda West. Knievel also expressed his condolences concerning the loss.
"I know he's had some tough times the past few weeks, and I hope things work out," Knievel said.
After all was settled, the two posed for a photo together.
