Jive Records is quickly becoming the least hip hop-friendly label, as it dropped Kelis recently.

The singer, known for her massive 2003 hit Milkshake, as well as the wife of rapper Nas is now officially off of the record label. Her most recent album, 2006’s Kelis Was Here was met with little success – a possible reason for her being dropped.

“It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record
industry and finding herself on a label she wasn’t signed to and
without a champion,”
said Kelis‘ manager, Jeff Rabhan, according to Entertainment Weekly.“She’s a different kind of artist — very image and style-driven. It’s either something you get or you don’t.”

Currently, the singer is involved in a number of projects. Aside from the reality series that co-stars Nas,Kelis is working on an indie dance record with Cee-Lo, as well as a pop song with Guy Chambers. She is also in talks to host a show similar to Project Runway on VH1.

“We’re not opposed to another major label deal, but it would have to be non-traditional,” added her manager.
