David Banner Explains Motives Behind "The Love Song"
After yesterday's online release of "B.A.N. (The Love Song)," HipHopDX's readers had plenty of feedback for David Banner. If you haven't heard the song, it's in our "audio" section (click HERE for the link). In the song, Banner calls out T.I.'s unnamed bodyguard as well as Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor for their cooperation with federal agents in the cases against T.I. and Michel Vick. Mississippi's most visible, and arguably most outspoken, Hip-Hop artist explained his stance to MTV as well as Ozone Magazine. Is David Banner trying to usher in a new type of grassroots community activism, or merely garnering more attention for the November 20th release of The Greatest Story Ever Told? Read his words and judge for yourself.
David Banner to Ozone in regards to the Micheal Vick Case and rap beef:
"Look at Mike Vick, they're making him do that plea agreement and snitch on other people because they know how black people feel about that type of shit, so they've ostracized that man in front of his people. And we turn around and do that same type of thing to each other. Look at beef in rap, that's just how they used to do the slaves. Just think about when niggas are beefin' against each other, the nigga who wins is the one who strips the other nigga naked and totally embarrasses him. So we turn around and do it to each other, and it's pitiful!"
David Banner to MTV on T.I.'s arrest and his bodyguard's alleged involvment:
"Tip was feeding this man's family. We don't do it like that, dog. We don't talk to them boys. However it went down, we sit down [and do the jail time] where I'm from. Dude, you don't tell it. You hope the people you holding down is man enough to hold your people down. [The bodyguard] wasn't a convicted felon, my dude. He could have held [Tip] down."
