On Saturday October 13, winners were determined  in Atlanta for the BET Hip Hop Awards at the show’s taping. Winners included recent successes such as Kanye West, with “Stronger” for “Best Hip Hop Video” and “Crank Dat Souljah Boy” as “Best Dance.”

Perhaps the real winner was Common. The Chicago emcee tied with platinum superstar T.I. for “CD of the Year” for his Finding Forever, despite considerably less exposure and sales than T.I. vs. T.I.P. Common also took home “Lyricist of the Year,” inching out his G.O.O.D. Music CEO Kanye West.

Lil’ Wayne won “MVP of the Year,” despite not releasing a solo album since 2005, while 50 Cent took home “Hustler of the Year.” Veterans U.G.K. and Outkast won an award for their summer hit “International Player’s Anthem” as “Best Collaboration.” Timbaland also won “Producer of the Year,” as DJ Khaled took home the “DJ of the Year” award. Lastly, newcomers Rich Boy and Da Shop Boyz won awards for “Rookie of the Year” and “Track of the Year” respectively.
