Capitol Hill Police Rough Up Hip Hop Activist

As we mark the sixth anniversary of Sept. 11, Capitol Hill police found time to rough up a Hip Hop activist/veteran over the conflict that stemmed from the original terrorist attack: the war in Iraq.

According to a statement released by the Hip Hop Caucus, Rev. Yearwood made plans to attend the hearing on the progress in Iraq. After waiting in line for several hours for the 12:30pm hearing, Yearwood and several others in attendance made their way to the front.

He was dressed in all black, offset by a white button that read, "I love the people of Iraq."

That's when the trouble started.

A video posted on Youtube shows Rev. Yearwood surrounded by several members of Capitol Hill police. He can be repeatedly heard asking, "Why are you singling me out?" and also told officers he had been waiting in line.

In the background, other people can be seen entering and exiting the building.

Rev. Yearwood did not cause a scene nor get violent with the officers, but was threatened several times with arrest.

About two and a half minutes into the video, one officer can be seen putting his hands on Yearwood, who then pulled away. Immediately after, among a sea of onlookers, Yearwood was rushed by what appeared to be four or five officers, wrestled to the ground and cuffed.

Several onlookers can be heard yelling "stop," while others informed police that Yearwood was a minister and was not going to hurt anyone.

After the altercation, Rev. Yearwood was taken out in a wheel chair by DC Fire and Emergency and treated for injuries at George Washington Hospital.

Following his release, he was taken to the police station for booking.

Yearwood may be facing charges for "assaulting an officer."
