Dear Mama: The Life of Afeni Shakur
Director, Omar Ice Man Sharif and member of The Outlawz, Young Noble (together they head HollyHood Filmz) have acquired the rights to Dear Mama: The Life Story of Afeni Shakur.
The film will chronicle the life of Tupacs mother from her birth (as Alice Faye Williams) in Lumberton, N.C. to her ongoing battles over the rights of her sons posthumous material.
The film will cover Shakurs drug addiction, her Black Panther party involvement, the murder of her son amongst other details.
The Dear Mama story is long overdue Im just so blessed to be in a position to producer this movie and make sure Afeni and Pac is proud when its done. This movie will offer hope and be an inspiration to the millions of people who will see it, Young Noble said in a statement.
"This incredible lady defended herself in court while pregnant with Tupac during a bomb conspiracy trial, facing 352 years and was acquitted of 156 counts against her and 20 other members of the Black Panther Party I felt that the world needs to know where Tupac got his mind, heart, spirit and courage, so I called Afeni with the idea. She was excited and gave me her blessing. The rest will be movie history, Noble added.
Still in development, HollyHood Filmz is still in search of producers and directors for the film. Rapper, Young Buck alongside The Outlaws (for Cashville Recordz and 1 Nation Entertainment) with Amaru Entertainment will be producing the soundtrack; which is set to feature Young Buck, The Outlawz, 50 Cent, T.I. and more.
