Hip-hop was well-represented at a concert and ceremony this week for the first-ever Virgin Megastore Shortlist Prize, but came up just a little shy.

Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek's Reflection Eternal album Train of Thought, as well as albums by Jay Dee and Del's Gorillaz were in the running for the prize, which was selected by musicians, music journalists and other industry folk. Mos Def, Macy Gray, and The Roots' ?uestlove were among the panelists judging the nominees. To qualify for the album, an album had to have sold less than 500,000 copies.

Icelandic rockers Sigar Ros won the prize, but rumour has it that Reflection Eternal came in a close second. Kweli performed at the concert and even invited judge and Black Star comrade Mos Def on stage for a while.
