David Banner is going the way of Boondocks creator Aaron Mcgruder and Andre 3000, and is starting a show on Cartoon Network. The show, The Crook’d Sipp, will have a 12:15 AM timeslot as part of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim lineup.

The show centers around and antiquated white Mississippi family, the Beauregards, who live in the modern-day South, but maintain the mentality of the 1800s.

Banner will be providing the voice of Virgil, the main character (a progressive black man). Virgil is the owner of the town’s most popular restaurants, and is also a rapper.

“He has the most controversial group in the South called the Sweet Tea Monsters, and they will have a real album coming out,” said Banner. “So many things in the cartoon
are loosely based on my real life. When I used to sleep in my little
van, I had a small studio inside. Inside the cartoon character’s Sweet
Tea Monster maroon van, it’s a whole world inside.”

Banner looks to create another way to explore important issues. “I realized that besides rap, there’s so many other ways to get your point of view across. If you can
make people laugh and still get your point across, it’s more effective
that way. Although the cartoon is very funny, there’s a lot of things
we have the opportunity to talk about. Dave Chappelle opened the door and ‘The Boondocks’ just kicked it off the hinges.”

Appearence on the show will include Pimp C of UGK, though the show’s fate is dependant on viewer support.

“The way the hip-hop community
embraces the show will have a lot to do with the success. It’s bigger
than just me…To me, it’s about people from urban
outlets having opportunities in the future to ink deals with the
Cartoon Network. This is an opportunity we don’t usually get; it’s an
opportunity to depict our own culture and control the images that come
out. For me, this is bigger than just a cartoon. We’ve got to support Andre 3000 and David Banner and all the people that are pushing hip-hop past the ordinary boundaries.”

The Crook’d Sipp premiers this Sunday at 12:15 AM on Cartoon Network.
