Things got a little windy in Chi-Town last week when rap mogul Russell Simmons got into a conflict with Power 92’s local morning DJ Trey the Choklit Jock.
Simmons originally went on the show to promote his new book entitled “Do You” and to speak on the current state of hip-hop’s lyrics. According to reports that the situation started to get sticky when Trey started to ask Simmons about Ben Chavis and does he feel like he’s selling out.

Trey told HHDX exclusively that how he started to get when Simmons started to talk to him like a little kid.

“In the conversation i brought up the fact that Ben Chavis was the FORMER head of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and that he would be working with him through the HSAN (Hip Hop Summit Action Network) and he told me not to refer to him as NAACP. The way he said it and when he said that it rubbed me the wrong way but I laughed it off and kept the interview going.Then I asked him what would he say to people that would call him a hypocrite with this whole hip hop thing..That’s when he raised his voice and started talking to me like I WAS A LITTLE KID.And that’s when I hung up,” said Trey.
But the DJ insists that there is no beef between him and the Phat Farm founder and in fact he still respects Simmons as a man.

“I had no idea at all that this would get as big as this has. I never had any intentions on hanging up on Russell, In fact as I stated on the air and off air to Russell that I have an infinite amount of respect for him and what he has done for hip hop in general. But to get respected you have to give respect. And I felt disrespected seeing as he got a little feisty about the Chavis question. All you read is DJ hangs up on Russell, The media has not talked about the fact that HE DID CALL BACK and HE DID APOLOGIZE and that I apologized to him for hanging up and we SQUASHED the misunderstanding INSTANTLY,” Trey said.
