BET is set to honor Black History Month, in a way that only BET can.
Kicking off its programming will be a series of documentaries for Hip Hop History Weekend and the 25 Events that (Mis) Shaped Black America .
Tupac: Thug Angel is the first documentary set to air. The program covers the late emcees life through the eyes of friends, scholars and artists he worked with. Pac’s legacy will further be explored. Angel airs Friday, Feb. 23 at 8 pm .
The origins of the emcee get showcased next in The MC: This is Why We Do It, which airs Saturday, Feb. 24.
No Hip Hop history weekend would be complete without examining Hip Hop’s ever evolving role with the police gets the once over in Black & Blue: Legends of the Hip Hop Cop. New York ’s rapper profiling practices get put on blast. Black and Blue airs Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1 pm .
Rounding out Hip Hop History Weekend is The Art of 16 Bars (pay attention, aspiring emcees). This documentary shares the writing and freestyling techniques of some of the game’s biggest. Bars will air Feb. 25 at 3 pm .
Hot off the heels of last year’s Worst Moments in Black History, Paul “I no longer use the N word” Mooney is back with the 25 Events That (Mis) Shaped Black America . Commentary from cultural critics, comedians and others takes an intelligent look at several missteps in Black History.
