Oprah Winfrey is known for many things. One of those things is her generosity. So, it was no surprise when Oprah decided to build a $40 Million school in South Africa.
She also noted that she did not chose to build a school in the US,
because she felt the children of the States would not appreciate it as
much.

“I
became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just
stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just isn’t there,”
she recently told Newsweek. “If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don’t ask for money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school.”

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls of South Africa is a 22 acre complex, according to reports. It comes
equipt with a yoga studio, a beauty salon and more. It is also special in the fact that 152 young girls were handpicked by Oprah to attend. The 152 were picked out of 3,500 applicants.
Some critics felt this was not a bit much. Oprah had this to say.

Still, Oprah has not forgotten about the states. According to the NY Daily News, The Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program has provided millions of dollars to American students who need the help.
