Erick Sermon remains in a New Jersey hospital after suffering head injuries, but the cause of those injuries is now in question.

Last week, Sermon's label J Records stated that the rapper/producer was in a car accident on the way home from a video shoot. Police would not confirm this at the time. Police are now saying that Sermon actually fell from a third story window onto a parking lot, where he hit his head.

According to police, was visiting a female friend in Patterson, NJ, on the night of the accident. The woman briefly left her apartment and returned to find the window open and Sermon on the pavement three floors under the window. Police say there is no evidence of foul play, and are not ruling out a suicide attempt.

Sermon's camp is maintaining that the incident was a car accident.
