Hip Hop Meets the Dictionary
The hip-hop lexicon has slowly snuck into official dictionaries; it was only a matter of time before someone made a dictionary totally dedicated to the slang that has come to define hip-hop in many ways.
"If you have had a hard time following or keeping up with the fast pace of hip-hop and urban 'street' lingo then (this) is the book for you. Street Talk simplifies this often complex and gritty language in an easy-to-read, easy-to-follow way," Kearse says.
The book, now available through AuthorHouse, contains more than 700 pages and 10,000 entries. Brooklyn native Kearse even covers lyrics and regional slang from QB’s ‘duns’ to a variety of Southern vernacular. Check an example:
(a) hood divorce: phrase (general sl.) new school
1. the unofficial separation of a married couple where they are legally married but date other people; a divorce without the paperwork
ex: "They was hood divorced for two years."
