Method Man calls out Hip Hop media outlets after an XXL article was published that the emcee found disrespectful.

“This is the reason I don’t like doing interviews for anything Hip Hop as far as magazines go because they are the bloodsuckers of the culture if you ask me,” Method Man says in the interview with HuffPost Live. “They’re the reason why a lot of this crap that’s coming out now flies because they’re co-signing. What the people don’t understand is that they get paid to co-sign it.”

The XXL Article titled “Method Man Thinks Waiting 88 Years to Release ‘Once Upon a Time in Shaolin’ is Stupid” was posted March 4. Method Man reportedly spoke to XXL over the phone and did not hold back his sentiment toward the recent album.

“I’m tired of this shit and I know everybody else is tired of it, too,” Method Man said to XXL. “Fuck that album, if that’s what they are doing. I haven’t heard anything like that, but if they’re doing crap like that, fuck that album. Straight up. I’m just keeping it 100. When music can’t be music and y’all turning it into something else, fuck that. Give it to the people, if they want to hear the shit, let them have it.”

Method Man says he felt misquoted in the article and he responded via Instagram.

“Persona non Grata…. “ Method Man writes in a since deleted post. “@xxl and Miranda Johnson #messy the online news editor.. U won’t last in this bizness doin devilish things my sister.. I think the ppl should let @xxl know how they really feel.. Hit em up @xxl.com and Miranda Johnson #neveragain #foolmeonce #whatdoesitmean #pariah #rejectedbytheppl be weary of these ppl if ur in the biz…”

Method Man expanded on his feelings toward Hip Hop outlets by stating that the media exacerbates conflict within the industry.

“[They] create beef, I mean that East-West crap?” Method Man says in the HuffPost interview. “Vibe should have got a bullet. They should have got a bullet instead of [Tupac Shakur] or [The Notorious B.I.G.] When they put that cover up with Big and Puff on there — when Big took that picture, he didn’t take that picture thinking East vs. West, he took the picture thinking, ‘I’m gonna be on the cover of Vibe.’ What came after, is what solidified East-West beef. For all the dumb mo’ fuckers out there that don’t know how to think of themselves… That fueled the fire.”

Since the posting of the original article, Wu-Tangreleased an official statement to clarify the release clause of the Once Upon A Time In Shaolin Album.

“Only one single copy of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin was ever to be made,” the statement says. “This has been the case since the very first announcement. A commercial release was never planned. The right to commercialize it, meaning the right to sell it en mass to the public in any form is not allowed until 88 years from now.”
