After speaking at NYU and MIT in 2012 and 2014 respectively, Lil B brought his sporadic college lecture tour to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, PA last week.

Speaking to a packed lecture hall about everything from acceptance of people’s differences to advice for executing ambitions, Lil B structured his talk around three main quotes according to CMU’s student paper The Tartan.

Following an introduction that welcomed both genders and those who identify with neither categorization, Lil B offered an oddball first quote to illustrate the importance of empathy. “You are what you choose to identify with,” he said. “You have the choice. A mouse raised by pigeons.”

Later he ruminated on the importance of setting goals and ended the lecture on a note about the changing world around us.

“Symbols of hate have now become beacons of hope and love,” he said. “We have to accept the new to understand what’s coming ahead and continue to be inquisitive with the status quo.”
