Just a week after announcing the launch of a new platform for musicians called “Artists First,” Rick Ross and his partner Dina Marto spoke with AllHipHop to discuss the new programme and to weigh in on the current Atlanta Hip Hop scene.
During the conversation, Ross spoke on how he personally will be involved with the growth of the new musicians he sources through Artists First.
“Once you become a member of the team, you under the same roof with us,” MMG’s frontman says. “You there when we build. You [gonna be] building with us when it’s time to be creative. When all the different artists that we cool with [and] work with. We got different studios. I actually own three different studios now so I’m gonna channel a lot of that energy over here to Twelve [Music Group] and this headquarters. Give these same artists that same opportunity to get in there and work with these producers and these writers and be creative.”

Earlier on in the conversation, Dino Marto, who formerly worked with L.A. Reid and managed Def Jam’s Atlanta office, offered her take on the Atlanta Hip Hop scene and why she believes it differs from that of New York or Los Angeles.
“I always think Atlanta is where the hits are made — I think the creative space here and the energy here is like no other place,” Marto says. “Not New York, not the West Coast. I mean there’s great places to do music and I’m not knocking any of that, but I just really feel like Atlanta is just so special. You can make a hit like [Rick Ross] said, take it to the strip club that night [and] see the reaction. We’re kind of like such a tight community here. I just think Atlanta has set so many trends in music and that’s why like I said before, I wanna stay here and help build and be a part of that history of Atlanta because I really believe in it.”
