During Beck’s acceptance speech for “Album Of The Year” at The Grammy’s last night (February 8), Kanye West followed the singer onstage in what many imagined to be a repeat of his infamous Taylor Swift remarks at the 2009 VMA’s. However, the Chicago rapper instead simply smiled and returned back to his seat.

Not long afterwards, Kanye, standing alongside his wife Kim Kardashian West, spoke with E! to address the situation.

“If The Grammy’s want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” Kanye West says. “We ain’t finna play with them no more. ‘Flawless’ Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it. Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.

“We as musicians have to inspire people who go to work everyday and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place,” Kanye adds. “Then they do this whole promotional event, and they’ll run the music over somebody’s speech, the artist, because they want a commercial advertising. No, we not playing with them no more.”

After word of Kanye’s outburst hit the Internet, Beck spoke with US Weekly at Universal Music Group’s after-party to weigh in on the situation.

“I was just so excited he was coming up,” Beck said when asked about Kanye intruding onstage. “He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?”

Asked about Kanye’s “true artistry” comments, Beck said: “You can’t please everybody, man. I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
