Nostalgic Hip Hop fans can look forward to the revival of a historic magazine.

Over The Edge Books plans to publish two Murder Dog volumes consisting of content from the publication’s 20-year archive.

Murder Dog operated as an independent magazine and was run by Black Dog Bone, a Sri-Lankan man who conceived the idea as a student at the Art Institute in San Francisco.

The publication was based in Vallejo, California and Murder Dog highlighted many of the West Coast’s burgeoning artists, but it also broke rappers from the South, Midwest and East Coast.

Many of the covers were raw, featuring up-and-coming rappers in a natural state, opposed to the spruced up versions other mags offered.

For example, Murder Dog released a cover of a shirtless E-40 – long before Rick Ross’ Rolling Stone cover – Tech N9ne holding a tec 9 firearm and Too $hort in between two ladies dressed in bikinis, among others.

Fittingly, The Game’s gun-toting cover will appear on the front of the book.
