Kool Moe Dee (born Mohandas Dewese) endured a storied solo career in Hip Hop that spanned more than a decade.

After parting ways with The Treacherous Three in the mid 1980s, the Harlem, New York native embarked on his own path with the release of his self-titled debut album, Kool Moe Dee.

His sophomore album, How Ya Like Me Now, reached platinum status, making the project his most successful offering. A reoccurring feud with LL Cool J helped push the album forward, as well.

Two years later, Kool Moe Dee’s follow-up, Knowledge is King, was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. He would later become the first rapper to perform at the Grammy awards.

None of the emcee’s subsequent albums attained the same notoriety as his first three but, Kool Moe Dee has remained a staple of the genre.

His songs have been featured in a variety of films and TV shows, including Wild Wild West, Love & Basketball, Boyz N The Hood, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Simpsons.
