During an exclusive interview with BlurredCulture.com, Gaithersburg, Maryland lyricist Logic spoke on his appreciation for fellow artist Big Daddy Kane. While speaking on Big Daddy Kane, Logic revealed the name of his favorite album from the Brooklyn, New York rapper and also spoke on the reason why he’s a big Kane fan.

According to the Maryland rapper, it was Big Daddy Kane’s ability to “go toe-to-toe with anybody” and his “fun, braggadociousness” that drew him in as a fan.

Logic also spoke on the late Big L while speaking on how emceeing has transitioned over the past few decades.

“He’s the fuckin’ man,” Logic said. “For me, Looks Like A Job For that’s my personal favorite album from him. I felt like he embodied so much of New York City, of Hip Hop…From the drums and the samples to just the analog sound back in the day. And just everything to me. I just—I love it. I love that it was just one man standing on his own and he could just go toe-to-toe with anybody, anytime, anywhere. And that’s something I loved. The fun, braggadociousness. Cause that’s what Hip Hop was built upon.

“Back in the day it was the emcee, but it was him talking about his deejay,” he added. “And why his deejay’s the flyest and deejay’s the freshest. And then that turned into ‘Yeah, my deejay’s pretty cool, but I’m cool too. And here’s why.’ And this, that. And then that turned into Big L, ‘I got more bitches than you, got more riches than you. Only thing I ain’t got is more stitches than you.’ So, the fun braggadociousness. Why the emcee is better than the next man. And I think Big Daddy Kane was somebody who murdered that.”

Lastly, Logic spoke on the reason behind his decision to form his crew, the Ratt Pack. He says he was inspired by the likes of Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa to start his own crew and added that he drew inspiration for his crew name from his Young Sinatra nickname.

“My family. My life,” the rapper said when asked about the Ratt Pack. “Back in the day I looked at people like Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, and those people who had like—So, Mac Miller had Most Dope, like his crew. And Wiz Khalifa had Taylor Gang. And J. Cole had Dreamville. I always wanted something. And I didn’t know what my thing could be…I was like ‘Man, how can I kinda have my clique?’ And I just couldn’t think of it. And then I thought of the whole Young Sinatra thing. How Frank Sinatra was skinny, thin dude, blue eyes, wavy, curly hair. For me, I was like ‘oh okay.’ So, I created Young Sinatra. But then I was like ‘How could I go even more into it’…I was like what if I spell Ratt Pack and make it kinda my thing too, but with two t’s, which stand for real all the time.’ Now that’s what Ratt Pack is to me.”

Logic’s interview with BlurredCulture.com comes weeks after he released his debut album, Under Pressure.
