Common is no stranger to endeavors outside of music, and now, you can add one more to the list.

Recently signing on to host a reality series entitled Framework, the Chicago native will be front and center among a competition of 13 aspiring furniture makers competing for $100,000 and the opportunity to have their furnishings carried/sold by a major furniture manufacturer. A synopsis of Framework described Common as “cutting edge” when it comes to identifying style.

“Throughout his career as an artist, Common has been on the cutting edge of trends and brings his keen eye for style and understanding of consumer desire to the competition.” The show, carried on Spike TV, says contestants will “work with unconventional materials and will be asked to rethink classic deigns and demonstrate their creativity.” Common will also be an active judge on the program slated to eliminate a designer weekly.

Framework is scheduled to premiere on January 6.

Common also sat down recently with Queen Latifah on the Queen Latifah Show and remembered being a ball boy for the Chicago Bulls. He described being given a pair of signed gym shoes from Michael Jordan, which he gave to his father. Comically, Common said he once saw his dad wear the shoes to one of his shows and wasn’t happy.

“I was a ball boy for the Bulls when I was 11 or 12-years-old,” Common said. “Right when Michael Jordan first came. He gave me a pair of gym shoes that he signed. I gave them to my father and he was holding on to them like they were his precious gift. And one day, he wore them to a show he had and I was like, ‘Dad, don’t be wearing these. These are classic, man! What are you doin?!’”
