The top four albums on the Billboard 200 were all new releases last week with T.I. and Logic claiming the #2 and #4 spots respectively. Slipknot’s new album 5: The Gray Chapter beat out all the other acts on the chart for the top spot with their first release in over six years. Further down the list, Game’s Blood Moon dropped 24 spots to #31 in its second week on the chart and TDE emcees Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q saw their albums jump back into the Top 100. Killer Mike and El-P cracked the Top 100 mark as well with their Run The Jewels 2 album making its debut at #96 with 3,805 units sold despite also being made available as a free download.

T.I.’s Paperwork At #2

Outselling first week predictions, T.I.’s ninth album debuted at the second spot with just under 80k sold in its initial week on shelves.

Serving as the first in a thematic trilogy, HipHopDX gave Paperwork three out of five stars in a recent review with writer Kellan Miller noting that “T.I. is judged on a much higher scale given the quality of his past releases.”

“T.I. has long showcased the ability to make even the most meanest mean-mugger drop all pseudo-thug pretenses in favor of cuff-happy sentiments, but instead of potentially spiking the birthrate in Atlanta, offerings like ‘At Ya Own Risk’ and ‘Private Show’ fall flat,” Miller wrote. “The latter interpolates UGK’s ‘Take It Off’ but lacks the sonic richness for a proper tribute.

Logic Debuts At #4

With Def Jam and No I.D. behind him for his debut album, Logic’s Under Pressure sold 72,501 units last week and landed at #4 in the process.

In a recent interview with HipHopDX, Logic spoke about the how widespread streaming continues to hurt album sales.

“If you have access to the Internet at all times and streaming, why would you even need to buy it?” he said. “If it’s always gonna be there? As long as you have power on your phone and you’re not broke and you can pay your phone bill, you can always have everything at your fingertips. And that’s a little disgusting. It sucks. That’s where we’re going.”

Game’s Blood Moon Falls To #31

In its second week of availability, Game’s Blood Moon album experienced a 71% drop in sales and tallied a total 9,440 sold last week after an initial run of more than 30k. The record has clocked a total of 42,325 units and fell from #7 to #31 last week.
