Earlier this month, a Toronto-based journalist and her boyfriend began pasting images of Drake’s face atop wheelchair signs around the city, a reference to his role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi. The stunt, which has come to be known as “Draking,” can now be seen at as many as 50 signs around Toronto. Speaking with Buzzfeedabout the idea, Lauren O’Neil, a journalist and blogger living in the city, explained wanting to keep the trend lighthearted.

“My boyfriend made the stickers last Wednesday and we’ve been ‘Draking’ the town ever since,” she said. “We just want to make people smile.”

TMZrecently caught Drake leaving a West Hollywood restaurant and asked the rapper about his thoughts on “Draking,” to which he replied, “It’s great.”

Detailing the origins of the joke, O’Neil’s boyfriend, Steven Stinson, spoke with The Star about the popularity of the resulting images across social media.

“Together we saw a handicapped sign,” he said. “We had been talking about Degrassi earlier in the day and a light bulb went on. The idea had synergy.

“By definition it’s vandalism,” he added, “but it’s a simple label on sticker paper and it can be easily removed.”
