According to Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Dame Dash, there is something to gain from losing. While speaking with Hip Hop Motivation, the Hip Hop entrepreneur revealed that when you’re down it allows you to discover who you should and shouldn’t look out for.

“This is why you also gotta look like you lose for a minute,” Dame said. “Cause then you see who’s gonna look out for you…The people that you helped don’t help you usually when you need it. So, that’s what you learn when it looks like you’re down. You really get to see who’s there for you and who’s there to just make money off of that. Again, that’s a win to me because then you get to know who the fuck you shouldn’t be looking out for or wasting [time]…Sometimes you gotta know who deserves to be looked out for. It should be somebody that will look out for you in a defining time.”

Dame, who was joined by boxer Andre Berto, later spoke on his alter-ego, Champagne Dame when asked about disappearing from the music industry. He says that he never disappeared and even had a television network dedicated to providing updates on what he was doing with his career.

In regards to retiring Champagne Dame, the entrepreneur credited that move to having daughters of his own.

“I didn’t disappear,” he said. “Who disappeared? I didn’t disappear. I just wasn’t where y’all was at. That doesn’t mean I disappeared. I was outside every day. I got a television network devoted to what I was doing when y’all didn’t know what I was doing…I got daughters, man. I can’t be Champagne Dame and then be pouring champagne on girls. Then my daughter gon’ let somebody pour champagne on her. I can’t be Champagne Dame. I’mma punch Champagne Dame in the face if he comes in there doing that shit to my daughter…Once you got daughters that shit changes everything. I’m not doing nothing to no woman that I don’t want done to my kid.”
