Chris Brown pleaded guilty today (September 2) to assaulting a man in Washington D.C. in October.

The incident took place while the singer was on probation in a felony assault case involving his attack on his on-again-off-again girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

Brown served time in jail earlier this year because he was on probation when the D.C. incident happened. The singer was released in June.

Brown also took part in counseling and rehab this year, a point that was brought up by Danny Onorato, the singer’s attorney.

“To say that he’s been punished severely in this matter is an understatement,” Onorato said, as reported by the Associated Press by way of ABC News.

Brown also spoke on the matter.
