Director David Lynch On Kanye West: "I Let Him Down"
Acclaimed director David Lynch says that he met with Kanye West about working together, but that "I couldn't come up with ideas that thrilled either one of us."
Kanye West and David Lynch — director of such films as Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive — have a affinity for each other’s work and decided to meet.
“'Blood on the Leaves' is one of my favorite songs,” Lynch says during an interview with The Daily Beast. "It’s great. He’s just ridin’ the wave and not takin’ no for an answer. We almost worked together, but I never got the ideas. I feel I let him down a little bit.”
The pair met regarding Lynch directing the clip for a Yeezus song.
"I was going to do the music video for 'Blood on the Leaves,' but it never happened,” Lynch says. "I didn’t come up with any ideas that I thought he would like. Kanye came up to the house one day. Kanye’s a good guy, and a great musician. I loved the song, and that’s what brought us together, but I couldn’t come up with ideas that thrilled either one of us.”
Last year, Kanye West screened a short film in conjunction with Yeezus that was inspired by the 2000 film American Psycho starring Christian Bale and based on the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis.
