Lil Debbie says that people who participate in the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” may have their priorities in the wrong place.

“I don’t like it because I don’t think you… need attention to donate money,” Lil Debbie says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX that premiered in the DX Daily Friday (August 22). “Just donate money. Just do it — because it’s right, because you feel like it’s right, not because someone calls you out.”

50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Iggy Azalea are among the artists who have participated in the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,” a challenge launched July 30 by former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates.

Frates posted a video on Facebook in order to raise awareness for ALS [amyotrophic lateral sclerosis]. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines ALS, which is often referred to as Lou Gherig’s disease, as “a progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells that control voluntary movement.” Researchers have not found a cause for ALS,  and there is no cure for the disease.

Lil Debbie says that the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” is good if it helps raise awareness and funds for ALS research, but that it is also problematic.

“It’s fuckin’ sad that that’s the type of shit we have to do for people to know,” she says. “It makes me worry. It makes me really worry for our future and our little ones.”
