Wiz Khalifa Says He & Nicki Minaj Don't Compromise Lyrics

Vanilla Ice "super valid" in his "Shell Shocked" criticism, according to Wiz Khalifa.

Despite reports that an arrest warrant was issued for Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa, the Taylor Gang lyricist revealed that fans have nothing to worry about. He spoke briefly on the matter during an interview with MTV News, stating that he didn’t want to speak too in-depth on the issue.

“It’s taken care of, but I’m not really speaking on it too much cause that’s not like the story of my life. But nobody has to worry about me going to jail,” Wiz said.

Wiz also responded to criticism fellow artist Vanilla Ice dished out following the release of his “Shell Shocked” collab with Juicy J and Ty Dolla $ign. The song is featured on the soundtrack to the newly-released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.

The rapper stated that Vanilla Ice was “super valid” in his criticism due to his involvement with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze movie, which was released in 1991.

“I felt like his opinion was super valid from his standpoint,” he said. “Because A, he’s passionate about this music and B, he did have something to do with the first one so—I mean, with The Secret Of The Ooze. So, he’s allowed to have personal involvement. He was in on it. But at the end of the day if he met me and talked with me he wouldn’t feel like that. But he said ‘With all respect due to the artists.’ And I’m one of them people—I’m very, very particular about words. So, just them words right there let me know where he was coming from. He wasn’t hating at all.”

Wiz later addressed his “True Colors” collaboration with Young Money artist Nicki Minaj. He referred to the record as “a regular song” and criticized those who “sleep on the fact that” the two artists can “make big music” and also not have to compromise on lyrics.

“It’s a regular song,” Wiz said while speaking with MTV News. “If you know me, I make different types of songs. Some are for the club, some are for the smokers and some are very inspirational and motivational. Songs like ‘This Plane’ and things like that with a message behind it and that’s what ‘True Colors’ is more down the line of.

“She kills it inspirationally, but lyrically—You know how we both do,” the rapper added. “You know what I’m saying? Like a lot of people try to sleep on the fact that because we make big music that we’re gonna compromise our lyrical or that we’re gonna compromise how we structure the verses. But that’s always gonna be steps and steps ahead of our competitors, because Nicki is like the dopest female and I’m the dopest young, wild, crazy dude that do what I do. So, when you put that together you only get the best of that.”

Wiz Khalifa’s interview with MTV News comes days before the scheduled August 19 release of his upcoming album, Blacc Hollywood.
