Miami producer/deejay DJ Khaled touched on a variety of topics in a recent interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. The We The Best helmsman also provided commentary on a number of his fellow artists including Jay Z, Drake, and Remy Ma.
DJ Khaled spoke on both Drake and Jay Z when asked who the most difficult artist he’s worked with is. He revealed that Drake isn’t difficult, but is very much a perfectionist. And in regards to Jay Z, he revealed that it took five years for the two to officially collaborate on a record together.
“I wouldn’t say the most difficult, but somebody that wants it to be perfect and it’s good cause the end result it’s gonna be a hit,” Khaled said in a video posted on HotNewHipHop.com. “Drake would be somebody that you know, you would have to—You gon’ have to really wanna do it or it gotta be the right situation or the right time. You know what I’m saying? Hov, it took me five years to get Hov. It took my five years to get Hov, but with Hov I just kept telling him I wanna do something. He ain’t never tell me ‘no.’ He ain’t never tell me ‘yes.’ But he at one point was like ‘Yo, when we get the right record and the right time we’ll do it. You know what I’m saying?’ Cause we do have a relationship. So, I was just like ‘Let me keep hustling.’ I worked with him on other projects. Been to the studio with him and vibing and that’s my dawg…When he finally said ‘Let’s do it,’ it took me like two years to get it done. But it was like five total.”

Khaled later revealed the story behind the “Go Hard (Remix),” which features Jay Z, Kanye West, and T-Pain. He stated that Jay Z was supposed to appear on the original version of the record, but he never received the verse Jay recorded. And in regards to the song’s music video, which doesn’t feature Jay Z, he said he never expected the Brooklyn rapper to appear in the video in the first place.
“When I made the record I didn’t expect him to do the video because I know he doesn’t really do that many videos,” he said. “I was grateful for the opportunity on the verse. So, I wasn’t even like in my mindset to say ‘I’mma get him in my video.’ Of course I wanted him there, but you gotta understand if he doesn’t do his own videos…I understand. Certain situations you just gotta be super grateful about.”
Remy Ma, who was released from prison days ago, was also brought up during DJ Khaled’s interview with The Breakfast Club. He spoke on his hopes for possibly signing Remy to his We The Best label and revealed how eager she was to get back in the studio.

“You know, Remy Ma my sis,” Khaled said. “We was talking while she was in and she told me—She was supposed to come out a day before. So, she told me she was coming to see me the day after. So, I told her—When she did come out I didn’t know she actually got out. She called me. She was in the whip leaving, I guess, the spot. And I was like ‘Remy, you know what? You just got home. Spend time with your family. And we’ll hookup later. You know what I’m saying? I’mma go to Toronto and come back.’ She’s like ‘Nah, I’m coming to see you.’ I was like ‘Great.’ I was in the studio. So, she came by the studio with some fly boots on and her hair did, chains. Like she ain’t never left…Obviously, the [first] thing I was talking about is like ‘Yo, I want you to be on We The Best.’ Absolutely. I’m not hiding it. It ain’t no secret. I’m on my job to try to sign her. It ain’t been done. I’m trying…I’m sure she’s weighing out her options and stuff.”
