Ne-Yo Says Jeezy Approached Him About "Money Can't Buy" Collab
Ne-Yo reveals initial "Money Can't Buy" skepticism, says he was surprised a rapper approached him about an R&B song.
While appearing on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, the Camden, Arkansas-born crooner shared the details of how “Money Can’t Buy” came about. Ne-Yo revealed that he was a little skeptical about a rapper sending over an R&B song, but says once he heard “Money Can’t Buy” the rest was history.
“Crazy the way that this thing came together,” the singer said. “Jeezy actually hit me like ‘Bruh, I got one for ya.’ Like the track—Jeezy brought me the track. But he came to me like ‘Yo, I got a R&B hit for ya.’ Now mind you Jeezy is dope at what he does, but I’m questioning what it is he knows about R&B. Like ‘You got a R&B song for me?’…I went to the studio listened to the track and I was in. I was in from there. So, I wrote my parts. He wrote his parts. And the rest is history.”
“Money Can’t Buy” doesn’t serve as the first time the two musicians have collaborated on a song together. Ne-Yo’s featured on Jeezy’s Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition record, “Leave You Alone.”
The Jeezy-assisted “Money Can’t Buy” serves as the first single from Ne-Yo’s upcoming studio album, Non Fiction. Due out later this year, Non Fiction will serve as Ne-Yo’s first studio release since 2012’s R.E.D.
