Mannie Fresh Discusses Yasiin Bey F/K/A Mos Def Joint Album

Mannie Fresh says Mos Def enjoys giving lectures before a studio session begins.

As an accomplished producer, Mannie Fresh has recorded with numerous artists all across music.

In a recent interview with NPR’s Microphone Check, Mannie described working with Mos Def on their upcoming collaborative album, OMFGOD. According to Mannie though, work comes with the enlightenment Mos likes to provide.

"We have to listen to him talk, for about two or three hours about life," Mannie said. "We got to let him get it all out. He has to give us all of his conspiracy theories and all of that and all of this. Then we like, 'OK, dude, you good? You ready?' He’s like, ‘Okay, I’m ready.'”

After previewing a song entitled "Let's Go" from the upcoming project, Mannie said talked about the difference between "beat-makers" and "producers" and the rift technology caused between the two.

"When you have something do it for you," he said. "It’s nothing wrong with saying, 'OK, I can get an app or a plug-in that’s an 808 plug-in.' But, when I buy something and it can, I guess, imitate and emulate the beat, then I’m not really working. You have things now that you can buy that pretty much have chords in it. That have  piano patterns in it. Well, why do I have to work? That’s why we have to define things between ‘beat-makers’ and ‘producers.’"

Mannie fresh is perhaps best known in Hip Hop from his work with Cash Money Records during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was also half of the duo Big Tymers and last album release was 2009's Return Of The Ballin.'

Mos and DOOM have 2 things in Common. One of them is that they should be working with Madlib and they arent. The other is that they are great lyricists like Common.
