Nicki Minaj Details "Pink Print" Plans, Next Single Release Date
"I think I kind of had to start from scratch," she says, "almost reintroduce myself again. I know people know me."
Before performing at Power 106’s Powerhouse concert last night (May 17), Nicki Minaj divulged some information about her upcoming The Pink Print album and announced a new single to be released this upcoming Wednesday (May 21).
“I’m very excited,” she said of the album. “I turned down a lot of features this year just because I wanted to focus on that feel first. Actually we are going to drop a single on Wednesday for The Pink Print so I’m very excited.”
Still speaking on the nature of the release, Minaj went on to say she wants to remind people of where she came from.
“I think I kind of had to start from scratch, almost reintroduce myself, again,” she said. “I know people know me. I wanted to remind them of where I came from.”
Asked about a shift away from the more colorful and flamboyant style that has accompanied her celebrity, Minaj also detailed her recently toned-down fashion.
“I used to think that I would never give up everything,” she said. “The colorful hair, the thick eyeliner, but now I haven’t been doing any of that. So, I never say never anymore. I just been enjoying it. I didn’t know it was gonna be such a big deal to people.”
Speaking separately with The Rap-Up before the performance, Minaj also described the upcoming single as “very soulful.”
“It feels very uplifting and it feels very soulful,” Nicki said. “It’s a great indicator of what The Pinkprint will feel like in terms of the storyline of that song...The Pinkprint will remind people why they fell in love with Nicki Minaj and I think that needs to be done.”
Asked if she is scheduled to appear on Lil Wayne’s upcoming album, Nicki remained hush while hinting at the possibility.
“He did send me something,” she said. “But, you know, Wayne is so unpredictable. You never know what’s gonna make it until the very last ending. But Wayne is my baby and I love him.”
