It was roughly five years ago when Hip Hop veteran Ice T informed fellow rapper Soulja Boy to “eat a dick.” Those words from Ice T were featured on DJ Ciscos Urban Legend mixtape along with a few other comments about Hip Hop.

While speaking with Vlad TV, the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star says he now regrets the comments he made about Soulja Boy. He revealed that part of his frustration at that particular moment stemmed from what he felt was a lack of difficulty in Hip Hop.

“When I came out, those statements that I made back in the day that was just an old school rapper saying ‘I want rap to stay difficult,’” Ice said. “I think that Hip Hop requires a sense of difficulty. If you a deejay. If you a rapper. If you’re a graffiti artist. If you’re a breakdancer. There has to be a sense of difficulty. That’s what makes you dope versus wack. Like ‘My breaker is better than yours. My deejay, emceeing.’ And I just felt that they were taking the bar so low on Hip Hop. Not just that kid, but other kids too. That I was like ‘Yo man, we worked so hard to get this to this point. Let’s keep it fly.’”

Ice T later revealed that his comments about Soulja Boy were never meant to be heard. He says that at the time, he was in the studio and was being verbally pushed and coached by someone who brought up the Atlanta rapper. From there, Ice T says he went off.

“At the same time I spoke on that, you got people like Lupe Fiasco spiting his ass off, you know? That was my comment,” he said. “It wasn’t a direct thing on this kid. Cause I only heard probably one record. I don’t even know…I kinda regret it. I said it because it turned me into a person that seemed like I wanted beef. That’s really not my style, you know? People feel like I got up out of the bed and went in on him. What really happened—The back of that story was we was making a record and somebody was really trying to get me to spit. And so they was like ‘Oh, yo. Such and such said you a sucka. You can’t get this kid.’ You know, they was just like verbally coaching, pushing me. And I just went off. And they taped that. And they used it to try to sell they mixtape…My little rant was never meant to be heard. It wasn’t as personal as it seemed.”

In his 2008 rant, Ice T dissed Soulja Boy, but also gave praise to a number of Hip Hop notables including Rakim and Big Daddy Kane.

“We came all the way from Rakim, we came all the way from Das EFX, we came all the way from motherfuckers flowing like Big Daddy Kane and Ice Cube, and you come with that Superman shit? That shit is garbage,” the rapper said.
