Hip Hop World Responds To DJ Rashad's Passing
Chance The Rapper, 2 Chainz, Jay Electronica, Danny Brown and others in Hip Hop react to DJ Rashad's Death.
Chicago footwork dance music scene pioneer DJ Rashad reportedly passed away yesterday of a feared drug overdose and since his death, the urban music community has reacted to his passing.
"Music lost a legend today," Chicago native Chance The Rapper said. "And he was my friend. Love you DJ Rashad. RIP."
2 Chainz, Danny Brown, Jay Electronica, A-Trak, Lee Bannon, Jeremiah Jae and Chicago's Sasha Go Hard, among others have offered their condolences via social media. The 35-year-old DJ was found dead in his apartment with narcotics and other drug paraphernalia found approximate to his body. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday, however the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office declined to comment further about it Sunday morning.
"It's just a tragic loss of a great musical genius," said longtime friend, DJ Spinn, who was scheduled to appear Saturday night with Rashad in Detroit (via a report from the Associated Press).
Considered a pioneer of house music and footwork (also known as "Juke"), DJ Rashad was heavily inspirational to a genre that Rolling Stone described as a "frenzied and hypnotic style of dance music that features heart-racing BPMs and, often, chopped-up loops of popular rap, R&B and pop vocals." He released his fifth album, Double Cup, last year.
