RZA Says Raekwon Dispute Has 30 Days Before Final Decision On Wu-Tang Clan Album

"If we don't come to terms I think within the next 30 days, then this will either be an album without Raekwon or an album that never see the light of day," RZA said.

Continuing an ongoing group conflict that has played out largely in public interviews, Wu-Tang Clan member RZA sat down with SI Now and updated fans on the possibility that either Raekwon will not feature on their upcoming album, A Better Tomorrow, or that it may not be released at all.

“Let me say this to you,” the Brick Mansions actor said. “I haven’t said this publicly but I’m gonna say this. The album is slated to come out in July. If we don’t come to terms I think within the next 30 days, then this will either be an album without Raekwon or an album that never sees the light of day. That’s a very strong potential. I would not want to put out a Wu-Tang album without every live member available. We can’t put Ol’ Dirty on it ‘cause he’s not here physical. At the same time, I don’t want the fans not to have this incredible music that we’ve been working on for the last year. So that’s gonna be a tough decision but we got about thirty days I think to make that decision and to come to that conclusion. Either way it goes. The sad part would be if it goes the way that it doesn’t come out. I would be very disappointed. But I know that the Wu-Tang legacy has already made a great mark on the world.”

When asked by SI Now host Maggie Gray asked about his instincts on the album’s fate, Rza said his “gut feelings says yes.”

“My gut has been good,” he added. “I’ve been pretty good. I got a 90% batting average.”

In an interview with Hot 97 that aired yesterday, RZA explained frustrations with the Raekwon dispute continually manifesting itself through the media.

“I wanna clear one thing up on the Raekwon thing because the newest article in Rolling Stone, Raekwon says that I’m a bold-face liar, right? Which I’m far from,” RZA said. “I don’t need to lie. Okay, I’m a grown man…But what happened was I did an interview a few weeks ago that just came out later. And I guess when it came out he read it then, but I spoke to Raekwon about eight days ago. But the interview was probably 14 or 16 days ago. So, he says in his interview ‘RZA’s a liar. He spoke to me.’ No, when I did the interview brother I didn’t speak [to you]. I hadn’t spoken to him in six months before that. Until recently. Last time I saw that brother was on tour in the summer. So, we didn’t get a chance to chop up the ideas of what I’m trying to do.”

If the album is released without Rae than call it a RZA album. An album without Rae cannot be considered a WU album at all... Its not that hard Rza.

Raekwon is a tool I will never purchase another one of his albums again if he fucks up the group album

Face it. Wu Tang is never releasing another real studio album. Old bickering men too lazy and greedy to agree on terms that should take an hour to iron out. It's pathetic how they've damaged their legacy.

      true

yeah i was skeptical about this shit from inception. The Wu Tang Clan as a collective is forever, but as a group it is near death.
  • chico
if the album doesn't drop the tracks will be spread amongst they're solos. and rae will end up fukkin wit it newayz
  • Franklin/Putnam STUY
So just put it out without Rae, 8 against 1 fuck diff does that make if he isnt on the album ..Dirty wasnt really on The W and that is a classic disc.. Another 8 diagrams wont happen at this point. This is gonna be worth the money and the time

if this album is going to be another 8 diagrams who the fuck cares if it comes out or not the only consistent ones have been rae ghost and meth
    • Bulletproof Wallets
True. Mef has consistently put out very average albums.
    • Dave
WRONG.....you must not be a WU FAN ...the fact is DECK (czar face), UGOD(dopium + keynote speaker), GHOST (12 reasons and Wu Block) and RAEKWON (obcl2) RZA (iron fist soundtrack) have all put out good albums in recent years so DON'T HATE. TAKE A REAL LISTEN TO THOSE ALBUMS their all FIRE. Regardless, combined sales of all 7 of those albums don't come close to sales for a WU ALBUM so they should put aside the bs and find a middle ground in order to give us one more classic album.

^^ C'mon b, just admit you're a die hard Wu stan and keep it moving. The real world knows those albums are garbage.

"RZA (iron fist soundtrack)" fuk outta here!

The time has come for Wu-Tang to step back and make room for an up and coming legend. I'm talking about the magnificent and charming Rick Ross, ladies and gentlemen. I guarantee you that in 20 - 30 years, you'll still be playing Trilla or Teflon Don and so will your kids and grand kids. Nearly ever disc in Ross' discography is considered a hp hop classic. Maybe one day, hip hop will stop considering him a laughing stock and actually recognize him as one of the greats, like Redman, Jay Z, Big Daddy Kane, KRS 1, Cube, Ice T, Nas, etc, etc. etc #bawse

Your trolling for Rozay is not funny anymore and quite annoying now.

YMCMB have proved to be a lot better than the Wu-Tang clan over the years. More classic albums and better music for real hip-hop fans.

don't think anybody knows but YMCMB dropped an album this year! Lil wayne is the worst rapper ever, Minaj is not hip hop she makes pop music, i don't think a true hip hopper takes this bitch for a hip hop artist, and the biggest star sings like on 70% of hes music lik a lil girl, they got the gay community all for themselfs, In 2 years they will be forgotten and be hated, wu-tang will alway be respected, even by you in 2 years you gonna hate ymcmb!!!!!!
    • Anonymous
Even drake has to name songs like wu-tang 4 ever and can't even put no ymcmb features on hes albums! fuck the gay music fuck drake!
    • Young Guwop
You lost ya gotdamn mind and trollin for the hell of it.
    • kyle
young money more classic then wu tang shit you must be confused little guy young money will never compete with the ability and chemistry of the wu tang clan your comment and opinion even though valid is a fucking joke you should be ashamed for having such shit taste in music
    • DUFF
The Wu just like YMCMB have both released great albums. Well certain YMCMB albums that is. Truth is the Wu has been around longer which makes the albums timeless, the only one on YMCMB that is in the timeless category would be Wayne. True enough Wayne's lyricism has died down a bit but you can't tell me that Tha Carter 1 wasn't that shit. And to be real about it, Rae the only one causing issues, he just mad cause RZA's check bigger BUT RZA is also an artist, producer and co-owner so what you expect?! None of the other members have complained, hell MEF did 9 tracks with no upfront cheese; now that's love for group and also for the fans...just make it happen!
  • kennyken
if rae hadn't even written any songs for the album or recorded anything yet, it will be rushed, IMO.
    • Anonymous
      "written any songs" lmao

I was so hyped for "A Better Tomorrow" especially after I've heard the beats RZA has produced on his The Man With Iron Fists Soundtrack. RZA still can produce hard bangers as y'all can see on "Blowin In The Wind" & "I Go Hard" those beats are epic to me and exactly the type of beats we need on the new record. And not mediocre production like Keep Watch from Mathematics, sorry but if the whole album got production like that then god save us all! I mean how the fuck you can't make good beats now? Back then they almost got nothin and made the fuckin best beats I've ever heard! RZA should do the production on the whole album I know he still can produce fire just take your time with it RZA!

Pu-Tang Clam is a collective of old, washed up rappers who couldn't make money when other rappers were going platinum and diamond. Anyone who listens to them today is a welfare recipient. YMCMB has the rap game by the clit.

This whole thing reads like an attempt at some lame ass publicity stunt to further their little kickstarter campaign. They don't even have 70,000+ people that will spend $14 to buy their album regularly but want $5 million for it. lmao

this nigga was calling for all wu members to get together and discuss the issue privately, yet he's all over the media talking down on raekwon
