Nas, Google & Microsoft Among Partners In Scholarship

Nas has joined forces with Google, Microsoft, General Assembly and Hirepurpose to provide scholarships for women, veterans, African-Americans and Latinos.

Nas, Google, Microsoft, General Assembly and Hirepurpose have united to created a fund to provide scholarships to women, veterans, African-Americans and Latinos, according to BetaBeat

“This is the start of what hopefully will be a contribution to what will be a more diverse and accessible community worldwide,” General Assembly CEO Jake Schwartz said in a statement to BetaBeat. “There’s sort of a like-attracts-like issue in engineering subcultures. It’s the ‘brogrammer’ syndrome."

This "brogrammer" issue is further detailed by BetaBeat.

"Most programmers, coders, developers, and engineers are white and Asian men, and census data shows that even where there are enormous minority populations, those ethnic groups can go almost entirely unrepresented in tech," the site says. "California, for example, has a 38.1 percent Hispanic population — twice the national average — and Hispanics don’t even make up one percent of tech founders."

Nas reportedly became involved with the fund when he met GA cofounder Matt Brimer at SXSW.

some1 tell kellis to get back on that husstle and take the rest of this niggas money. He starting to act up and kellis needs to put him back in his place

You actually took time out to type that vengeful paragraph. I hope Nas got to read it and was proud that you think he's ballin outta control.

"Kelis if Nas is giving scholarships" And where are these scholarships coming from, Escobar University? Clearly it's a name association thing. No money is departing from Nas's pocket to help students get an education.

      You really are slow.

"Ask Kelis does Nas live in a beautiful home in the Hollywood Hills?" Alot of people live in houses they can't afford. Ask Tyga, Fat Joe, Chris Tucker, etc.
  • Anonymous
"Ask Kelis if Nas can afford anything he wants in life?" Nobody says he can't enjoy material things, but he lived beyond his mean for years because he wasn't paying taxes.
    • Anonymous
      So has every other rapper.

"let them believe Nas is broke" Then why can't he pay his taxes? Why did he jump on every bad song last year? Nas definately felt the strain. He's not broke broke, but Kelis can testify that he's clipping more coupons now.
    • Anonymous
"Then why can't he pay his taxes?" If that was true, then the IRS would already have this nigga rotting behind bars, you know how that go, they never miss an opportunity to encage a negro. "Why did he jump on every bad song last year?" Can't really argue with this one LMAO

Ok...ask Kelis when the temporary order for alimony checks stopped? Ask Kelis does Nas live in a beautiful home in the Hollywood Hills? Ask Kelis if Nas is broke or clipping coupons? Ask Kelis did Nas just purchase a condo for his daughter? Ask Kelis if Nas has a personal chauffeur? Ask Kelis how long was Nas required to pay alimony for a short term marriage in the state of CA? Ask Kelis if she can afford to pay her own taxes since Nas no longer pays her alimony? Ask Kelis if Nas gives a fuck about your belief that he is "broke"? Ask Kelis if Nas can afford anything he wants in life? Ask Kelis if Nas is giving scholarships to students while you hate on home behind a computer? Ask Kelis if Nas gives a fuck about having his income reported in Forbes? Ask yourself if your mad because Nas can afford to give this gift (scholarships) to otther and you more than likely NEVER will be able to afford to give someone such a generous gift? Life is GOOD for Nas!

"He even said he had over 200 million on one of his songs from the last album" Esco lied to you, homie. 200 million lol Definately not from record sales. Hennesy shells out a few mill to endorse their product. Investment wise, he might be doing well. I doubt Brinks trucks are pulling up to his house, but point is the media doesn't report financial problems if they don't exist. Nas has money, but to pretend he's worth the same as say 50 Cent is insane.

If you really want something original to add to your album collection, then I suggest you go cop that new Mastermind, available now in stores and on iTunes. It's truly a classic with no filler, no skits, all originality. Ross proves to us that he has a far greater penchant for picking beats than Nas'. Hopefully, when Ross reaches another couple decades in the game, he'll hire some up-and-coming producer to create "Port of Miami - 20 year anniversary", the shit will be an even bigger classic than it is today #bawse

"Keep believing the hype while Nas continues to collect his millions and invest" Millions from what? lol

For real whens the last time anyone saw Nas on Forbes? Rick Ross makes more than him.
    • The nerve.
^ You little teenage faggots believe everything you read. Just because "Forbes" or whatever the fuck says it you think everything they say is the law. Forbes doesn't know how much money these people are making, they just guess base on who they see on TV and the media the most. They make up all of these artists numbers. Just because an artist isn't on their little list doesn't mean they're not making money. Nas has real estate, a clothing line, stores, an endorsement deal with Hennessy and he has sold about 25 million records worldwide. Of course he has money. He even said he had over 200 million on one of his songs from the last album. Make no mistake, there are plenty of artists caking who you will never know have money and plenty more artists who are on that list that don't have as much as they're said to have.

" He even said he had over 200 million on one of his songs from the last album" So now he's just flat out lying to his fans about his worth like Rick Ross does?

they're fuckboys, let them believe Nas is broke

its sad to see all these new school hiphop fans caught up in materialism. all i see is comments on NAS money instead of talking about what his music sounds like. please wake up!!!
  • BK Ninja
"Nas is WINNING!" I never thought the words "Nas" and "winning" could be used in the same sentence.
    • Real Talk
That's because you have a LOSER MENTALITY! While Nas understands in life you win some & you lose some but it's how you evolve from adversity that determines your outcome. That's why Nas will ALWAYS PREVAIL because hate has NO place in his cards of WINNING!
    • BK Ninja
^^ Nikka please smh did I hurt your emotions or something? U out here writting essays about your love for Nas and shit, that shit ain't even cute lmao, all you had to say is "fuck u" and keep it moving

Financial Hardship? Nas has invested big money in over 40 tech ventures in the past year and has showed NO signs of hardship" He owes big money to not only the government, but to Kelis every month. That's why he went slumming, popping up on every bad song out there just so he could scrape together enough to make sure Kelis's car was detailed properly.
    • Real Talk
You people still believe the fictional gossip... Nas does NOT OWE KELIS or the GOVERNEMENT SHIT! You niggas so caught up in watching Nas money and monitoring who he alledgedly owes that you can't seem to keep track of what's TRUE and FALSE. Keep believing the hype while Nas continues to collect his millions and invest.

what millions? whens the last time you saw nas on a forbes list?

Just because Forbes didn't talk about Nas doesn't mean he's making money. Don't believe everything you hear.

Nas can't afford to send kids to school himself to he had to beg Microsoft and Google to give out some scholarships in his name in exchange for some raps about Windows and Google on his next album.
    • Serious
You obviously didn't read the article. General Assembly, the New York City private vocational school for programming and engineering, to offer opportunities in tech to young blacks and Latinos. Through his Queensbridge Venture Partners, Nas joins Google, Microsoft, and Hirepurpose as the first contributors to fund the program. Each donor is tasked with a specific target demographic. Google will offer scholarships to women, Hirepurpose and Microsoft will sponsor veterans and Nas' QueensBridge Venture Partners will fund African-Americans and Latinos. This very article states: "Nas reportedly became involved with the fund when he met GA cofounder Matt Brimer at SXSW." So how is Nas begging? Haters Never Prosper...in the meantime Nasir's success is benefiting others to succeed in the world.
  • Anonymous
So in other words Nas is going to put his name on a check from Microsoft and pretend he gave it to some kids so they can grow up and get an education unlike his dumb ass.
    • Real Talk
No, Nas doesn't have to prestend to put his name on check from Microsoft because his own company QueensBridge Venture Partners will be funding the scholarships for African Americans & Latinos to receive an education in tech. But unlike your hating ass Nas is far from dumb an obviously has and continues to do more with his life, time and money than you ever will hater. Congrats Nas!

I'll give Nas credit. Despite all his financial hardships and bad press with his ex and his daughter, he's trying to branch out and make a difference. More power to his efforts.
    • Anonymous
Financial Hardship? Nas has invested big money in over 40 tech ventures in the past year and has showed NO signs of hardship. Bad press does not stop a person from thriving in life...only the weak find this to be a reason to not give back to others especially when you are financial position to do so like Nas.

its funny how Nas didn't start hustling like his peers until he was nearly 40, divorced and facing IRS problems.
    • Okay
It's funny how Nas never was ordered to court or served prison time for these alledged IRS problems. Nas is NOT the first or the last celebrity to go through a public divorce. Why continue calculating his success based a short term marriage of 4 years that ended in divorce over 4 years ago. You people more worried about Nas money and business moves more than the man himself. Stop calculating Nas' moves and get to work in your own life because obviously Nas is WINNING!
    • Anonymous
just saying why wasn't he making any moves 10 years ago? why doesn't he have a successful label or clothing line? He's fucking NAS for god sakes. If Rick Ross can run a successful record label and sign young artists I don't see why Nas couldn't be running the rap game with a crew he handpicked.
    • Anonymous
they forget Nas is co-owner of Rock The Bells, forget how his ex-wife said he has money all over the place let's not act like Nas is Memphis Bleek, just getting his first grown man job although he has been around a mogul all of this time
    • Real Talk
@Anonymous LOL at you trivial way of thinking. Here is a quote from Nas that will answer you question. You gotta realize that some rappers complain about their careers/money, but you aint heard Nas complain about his career [laughs]. You dont get here just fucking around. If Snoop Dogg makes a Snoop hot-dog then Nas gotta make one? If I decide I want to do movies or clothes Ill do them. None of this shit is rocket science.-Nasir Jones Again, while you gossiping pocket watchers worry about Nas having a label like Rick Ross...Nas is evolving way beyond the norm. How about Nas has co-owned his own independent touring company for damn near 10 years and has recently had his sneaker boutique built from the ground up in Vegas, has several success businesses in the south (won't mention area), is a VC investor along side well invested billionaires (that he is friends with) and that's a small summary of Nas business ventures. Nas investing in people's dreams and all you worried about is why you haven't heard about Nas doing business 10 years...news flash NOT EVERY rapper feels the need to broadcast his business besides his music is his main profession NOT his business acumen. LOL! Nas never needed a crew to put to be considered a LEGEND or THE GOAT!

      Nas accountant caught feelings.

Those aren't feelings, those were facts.

you have to work for nas to care that much
  • Fuck Queensbridge
I can stand the Lord Jamar and 50 articles, but I'm really tired of seeing Nasir's name everywhere on this website. And don't you dare get at me with that "why u still here then?" small time bullshit.
    • Anonymous
Well, at least u ain't promoting that wack ass Bryon Crawford book
    • Anonymous
NaS Lost is the Nas book only Byron Crawford could write, and not just due to literacy issues in the hip-hop community. Billed as a tribute to the little homey, it is in fact a tribute, but not in the way that an article in XXL magazine is a tribute to a rapper. NaS Lost considers the artist's career in its totality, from its amazing highs to its crushing lows -- and some of everything in between. Discussed in NaS Lost: The 2001 beef with Jay-Z. What really led to this dispute? Nas and Jay-Z as Eskimo brothers. How the two of them became related in a sense. Nas' albums. Is it true what Jay-Z said, that Nas has a one hot album every 10 year average? Illmatic's five mic review in The Source. Was it really the best album of its era? The dreaded n-word. If KKKramer can say it, why can't Nas? Ghostwriting allegations. Can anything dream hampton says on Twitter be believed? The Virginia Tech controversy. What is the real cause of most school shootings? The hostage situation in Africa. Who was to blame there, Nas, the promoters, or the continent of Africa? Nas' marriage to Kelis. Bad idea, or worst idea of all time? Nas as a parent. Why is his teenage daughter posting her birth control on Instagram? Cultural tourism. Why is it that SPIN magazine likes a Chief Keef album more than Life Is Good?
