When asked to share his thoughts on adidas’ recent deal with Kanye West during an interview with Sneaker Watch, retired NBA player Tracy McGrady applauded the sports brand on their decision to bring on the Chicago rapper who previously worked with Nike on the Air Yeezys.

McGrady also complimented Kanye on his style and taste, and wished the rapper good luck with his latest fashion endeavor.

“I think that was a great sign by adidas,” McGrady said. “He’s a guy that clearly expresses his self. He has great style, great taste. He knows about the fashion world. And we need something like that. A different type of flavor to add to our family. So, I wish him the best.”

Prior to speaking on Kanye and adidas, McGrady shared his most prolific moments in his career and sneaker culture. While sharing his most prolific moment, the athlete recalled wearing mismatched red and blue sneakers during the 2004 All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

“For me, the 2004 All-Star Game, throwing the ball off the glass,” he said. “Setting that trend of wearing mix-match shoes. Leading the NBA in scoring that year. Nowadays, wearing sneakers, releasing sneakers is so huge now. You know? Whether it’s MJ releasing his sneakers. Guys waiting outside days for the release. It’s just sneakers is a big thing now. And I think we gotta keep up with what everybody else is doing. Whether it’s the colorways, the style. We gotta—adidas has to come with it.”

In addition to support from Tracy McGrady, Kanye was also recently commended by fellow rapper Bow Wow about his move to adidas. The “106 & Park” host suggested that Ye might assist with adidas’ Y-3 collection and would likely “have a field day with it.”

“I think it’s a smart move he went to adidas though. For Kanye, adidas is better,” Bow Wow said during an interview with Sneaker Watch in February. “You got Y-3. Y-3 is a European, funky style—it’s just a funky style way of dressing of adidas. I see him going in there and cleaning that whole shit up. I think he’s gonna have a field day with it.”

During an interview with Chicago, Illinois radio station 107.5 late last year, Kanye revealed that he designed both a men’s and women’s collection for adidas, both of which he says would probably be released in September 2014.
