DJ Skee Explains After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles Partnership
Exclusive: DJ Skee speaks about his involvement with After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles.
DJ Skee, who hosted an online auction for After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles on CharityBuzz.com in February, recently spoke with HipHopDX about his involvement with the organization.
"After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles is an organization that I have been involved with for many years now," Skee says In an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. "They have programs from K-12 grade students in the visual and performing arts; health, fitness and nutrition; community service and leadership. The scope of ASAS-LA is huge--serving 17,000 kids in LA annually! The programs are geared to give students from low-income communities opportunities for better life and successful future."
Skee didn't have the same type of program when he was younger.
"I wish there were more after-school programs at my school," Skee says. "I did some stuff at the local community centers and obviously sports, but if there were things like ASAS where I grew up it would have been awesome. I worked in forging my own path, but there are thousands of kids out there that need the direction and leadership that After-School All-Stars provides."
On March 25, Skee hosted the charity auction winner at the Skee Lodge in Hollywood, California. The winner of the auction spent the afternoon with Skee.
After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles says it "provides comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life," according to its website. The organization outlines its vision with the following statement: "Our vision is for our All-Stars to be safe and healthy, to graduate high school and go to college, to find careers they love and then give back to their communities."
In February, Skee spoke about the initiative.
“I’ve been involved with After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles for many years now,” DJ Skee said at the time. “The opportunity to engage in an online auction to benefit the kids [in the program] is surely something worthwhile to me...The auction provides me the opportunity to give back to the LA community. This city has given me a lot of opportunities…it feels good to give back to the people in L.A. that need it the most.”
