Hip Hop Singles Sales: Week Of 03/16/14

Lil Wayne's "Moment" makes the highest debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.

This week, Lil Wayne’s “Moment” makes the highest debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. Pharrell’s “Happy” continues its run at the top, while Snootie Wild’s “Yayo” debuts on the chart.

Pharrell’s “Happy” Is #1 Again

Pharrell Williams' "Happy" is the #1 song on the chart this week. In its seventeenth week, Williams’ song sold 364,110 copies, a 26 percent decrease from last week's 490,185 units. Overall, Williams's cut has sold 2,987,560 units. The selection appeared on last year's Despicable Me 2 soundtrack and is also the rapper-producer-singer’s lead single form his G  I  R  L album, which is available for streaming now.

Pharrell recently spoke with HipHopDX about his new album. "I wanted to stick to my subject matter, which was my full spectrum version of appreciation for women—which is why I named the album G  I  R  L," Pharrell said in the HipHopDX exclusive. "That’s capital letters with two spaces between each letter. I just wanted to focus in on that.”

Lil Wayne’s “Moment” Debuts At #28

Lil Wayne’s “Moment” single makes the highest debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart this week. The song, which entered at #28 this week, is featured on Young Money’s Rise Of An Empire album, which earned 2.5 out of 5Xs in its HipHopDX review.

"Lil Wayne’s ‘Moment' hinges on a boast—'All I’ve been doing is celebrating, I don’t even know what I’m celebrating'—that sounds oddly affecting (He claims that he’s baked, though he croaks like he’s been bedridden for weeks),” the review says.

Snootie Wild’s “Yayo” Enjoys 87% Sales Spike

In its sixth week on the charts, Snootie Wild’s “Yayo” single enjoyed an 87 percent sales increase. It sold 7,030 units this week, up from 3,760 last week. The song, which also features Yo Gotti, has sold a total of 23,633 copies.
