Lil Boosie's Planned Prison Release Delayed

Music journalist Jeff Weiss reports that Lil Boosie will not be released next week.

Following reports that the Baton Rouge artist would be released from prison the day before Valentine’s day, music journalist and Lil Boosie interviewer Jeff Weiss took to Twitter to report that the rapper’s release has been delayed.

In a series of Tweets posted on Friday (February 7), Weiss updated fans on the most recent news of Boosie’s upcoming release.

In January, HipHopDX reported on Boosie’s planned early release following news that he had completed a substance abuse course and two other classes while behind bars. In March of last year, HipHopDX learned that Lil Boosie had completed his GED as a prisoner in the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

On Friday, Weiss continued his public update on Boosie’s release plans and reported that a parole board hearing convened for the rapper’s release was cancelled due to the proximity of the date.

Weiss also reports that the Superbad rapper still has to complete required coursework in prison before adding that he is likely to be set free in March.

Lil Boosie was arrested in 2009 for a third-offense marijuana possession charge and violation of probation. Two years later, while still incarcerated, the rapper was sentenced to an additional eight years of hard labor after pleading guilty to drug charges stemming from an attempt to smuggle codeine, ecstasy, and marijuana into the famed Angola prison. The drug charges brought against the Bad Azz Entertainment founder came while he awaited trial for first-degree murder charges after he allegedly ordered a hit on a 35 year-old Baton Rouge man in late 2009. Boosie was found not guilty by a Baton Rouge jury in May of 2012 according to the USA Today. If convicted on the first-degree murder charges, the rapper would have faced a possible life sentence.

In an exclusive interview with the rapper released in early 2013, Lil Boosie described his plans to continue recording music to Jeff Weiss. “I have about 500 songs at the moment,” he said. “I'm ready to get in the studio with the best producers. I feel that I'm making the best music I've ever made. The more I go through in life the better my music gets and it's been crazy the last three years," Boosie said. "I keep my music heartfelt and stick to making real music. I wouldn't even say it's Hip Hop music. My music is 'reality Rap.' Hip Hop music can make you dance and bob your head, but it can't make you cry or touch your heart like reality Rap."
