Snoop Dogg & Pharrell Williams Discuss Crossover Appeal, Promise More Collaborations
Snoop Dogg and Pharrell assess each other's universal appeals.
Snoop Dogg and Pharrell have a storied collaborative history together, including memorable singles like "Drop It Like It's Hot," "Let's Get Blown," "Beautiful," and "From tha Chuuuch to da Palace."
In an interview on Snoop's "Double G News Network," he and Pharrell discussed each other's ability to cross over into other genres. "Ain't that a special move for you to just be able to fall in with these legends, and do music as if you were in they time period?" said Snoop, specifically referring to Pharrell's collaborations with Daft Punk. "That's the thing that I don't get, is how you can just flow into they time period, and come back with something with Justin, and do something over here with 2 Chainz... You don't have no time period on your music. You can get in, where you fit in."
"Right," Pharrell said, before adding, "But what's the difference with you? Because you've done the same thing. Listen: everyone else from your era... I don't know where too many of those guys are, whereas right now, we're going into 2014, and you're gonna do it again."
During the interview the frequent collaborators spoke about the need to work together again. "Oh my god, I can't wait," Pharrell said. "We gonna put this on the schedule ASAP. We have to, because seriously, the way you move culture... any other person would have suffered really severe consequences with your affiliation with weed. They would've suffered. But because you've always delivered such a disarming connotation and essence behind your music and behind your intention as a human being, the law fucks with you, but they don't fuck with you the way they really could... I think people can see you're a leader."
