Moroccan-born artist French Montana was among a handful of rappers arrested on Friday, January 31 after attending a pre-Super Bowl party at Brooklyn’s Club Lust. French and the two other rappers arrested, Chinx Drugz and Jadakiss, were released the day after they were booked by authorities.

French Montana briefly shared the details of the arrest while speaking to TMZ. According to the Coke Boys emcee, he was arrested due to a warrant that stemmed from 2008.

“You know what, it was a reality check, man,” he said. “They make you remember where you come from…They said I had a warrant from ’08…I do a party every weekend and this one weekend they grab me.”

Despite the arrest, French appeared to be in high spirits, a mood he attributed to having a good lawyer.

“Yeah, I’m happy, man. I’m doing good. I’m doing excellent, man. I got a good lawyer. I just had to let the people know, so they can know that it don’t matter where you come from or how big you make it they still wanna—you see that right there,” said French while pointing at a police van. “They waiting on me. Nah, they waiting on me too.”

Although details on the arrest of the trio remain scarce, both Jadakiss and Chinx Drugz did confirm that the incident did in fact happen in a handful of tweets sent last Saturday, February 1.

French Montana is currently at work on his next studio album, Mac & Cheese 4, a project he says will bring him back to the essence.
